Karen Smithee Art

Hello and welcome! I’m Karen Smithee! I am an acrylic painter, living in California. Growing up, my mother was creative in every possible way. Coming from this early influence creativity is simply in my DNA. I returned to college, as an older adult, to inspire my creativity and reconnect to a lifelong love affair with art. In 2020, I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. I went on to earn an Art Teaching Credential in 2022.

My painting style is evolving as I journey to share my artistic voice. I am drawn to figurative works, as I find there is elegance, grace, and a connection to our shared humanity through the human form. Whether it is figurative or people engaging in everyday activities, my work tells a story to evoke emotion. Color is what drives me to create. With paint, I can create endless colors, textures, and layers. It’s a thrill to create something from nothing! My imagination and ability to create art are endless.
